Ging-Ging and Pops Visit

First, a little vocabulary:

Ging-Ging: Sandy Jordan, Carson's paternal grandmother. Why Ging-Ging? Well, as far as I know it's a name she received from her grandmother, and it seemed appropriate to use now.

Pops: Bill Jordan Jr., Carson's paternal grandfather. Why Pops? Well, no reason really, but if Sandy was going with Ging-ging he had to go with something a little more interesting than just Grandpa.

Pops and Ging-Ging got to witness another exciting week for Carson. They went on increasingly longer walks (Carson is riding up to 3 miles):

They observed a little tummy time:

or perhaps it was just sleeping:

We took more baths:

We celebrated Dad's 31st birthday:

And we got in some quality singing and dancing:

Of course there were more events not caught on film because Carson didn't bother to wake up for them (like breakfast and lunches out, and Carson's first pool party).

Carson can't wait to see them again at Thanksgiving (or maybe even sooner).

Congratulations Kemily!

Carson wanted to be the first to congratulate his Uncle Ken and new Fiancée-Aunt Emily on their engagement on June 27th.

Goodbye Grandma and Grampa!

This week was filled with more tummy time and bonding with Grandma and Grampa. Carson, Laura and Bill were all sad to see Grandma and Grampa Morris leave. How will we survive without them? Luckily we're readying casa Jordan for the arrival of Ging Ging and Pops (The Jordan contingent), and we can't wait to see them later tonight! As for the week in review, there were less firsts (didn't get a shot of Carson's first pinkberry), but still lots of fun!

Grandma and Grampa made the trip back from Santa Barbara on Sunday. This allowed them time to fix us dinner and for Grampa to start on lots of special projects. First, there was some time for a little bit of hanging out.

Grampa and Carson on Father's Day

We tried to get a family photo, but Carson hasn't yet learned how to say cheese (or what cheese is, for that matter)

Carson likes to show off during tummy time. Here he tells all the other two week olds to toughen up and start crawling

Before Grandma and Grampa could leave, they wanted to poke fun at the Jordan toes. Like father like son!

Goodbye photo with Grandma and Grampa. We're sad to see you leave and look forward to seeing you in September!

A week of many firsts

First, let me preface this post with an apology -- I (Laura) am writing it vs Bill, so it will most likely not be as funny as his posts. With that being said, here goes...

As you'd expect for some one living their second week of life there have been many "firsts" this week. We've included a lot of pictures of these firsts, below, but there were many more that we just couldn't get on the digital camera including: first time pooping on Grandma Morris, first time peeing on Dad, and of course, the first time sleeping through the night (just trying to see if you're paying attention -- this is a joke, get it, haha???).

Here are a few of these firsts -- for many more shots including an extensive moment by moment view of tummy time, see: http://californiajordans.shutterfly.com/ password ckjordan.

First time out to lunch with Dad, this occurred on Tuesday June 10th after the pediatrician appointment.

First walk to the beach with Mom. This was Wednesday, June 11th, and we dressed Carson up in a silly duck hat that I'm sure has created a memory which will be re-lived in therapy years from now.

A view of Carson outfitted for his first walk in a fun duckie hat.

Tummy time push up! I would claim that this is the first time Carson performed this trick, but I missed about a dozen other shots... He can also now totally flip his head from right to left without a stop in the middle (and that is quite a feat when your head size is in the 80th percentile!)

Another cute tummy time picture.

Tummy time with Grandma

First time out at the local coffee shop.

Carson's first time in the bouncy seat. He enjoyed listening to the rockabye baby tunes including Stairway to Heaven, the glockenspiel version.

First time in the swing. Good thing we were quick with this picture as Carson didn't last very long in the swing. Then Carson had a little more play time with dad.

Usually Bill does most of his bonding with Carson between the hours of 3-4 AM, but we don't like to take any pictures at that time.

Finally, after of these firsts it was time for another, the first bath. Carson was a great kid in the bath and obviously inherited Laura's swimming and water genes. Here are a few shots:

A tasteful nude shot of bath time, per the request of Uncle Ken. This probably is enough to put him on some sort of watch list.

All clean and ready for bed! Thanks Aunt Caroline for the fun towel!

The Benefits of In-Unit Washer & Dryer

I've received many many requests for additional pictures. Unfortunately being webmaster of http://californiajordans.blogspot.com doesn't pay nearly as well as you'd expect, so I'll put stuff up as fast as I can creatively think of something to say about it. However, there are plenty more available at http://californiajordans.shutterfly.com/. The password is ckjordan.

Carson had quite the big first day at home. In the span of less than 24 hours he went through 5 outfits and quite a few more diapers. Anyway, here's the quick rundown.

First, Dad thought it'd be great to watch the Germany/Poland fixture with Carson, and Elise Bailey had sent the perfect outfit amongst a group of hand-me-down clothes (FYI, not drunk, just tired):

Unfortunately, Carson would pee all over that outfit about 3 hours before the 11:30am game kicked off. So next we tried a turtle outfit, but unfortunately it would meet with the same fate (fortunately not during this picture):

Again only a few hours later he'd have made another change:

Then one outfit went by so quickly we didn't even get a chance to take a picture of it, but Laura finally settled on this gown, which made it til just after midnight.

Trip Home & Surprise Party

After a lovely four night stay at the Hotel UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center it was time to make the big trip back to Playa del Rey. Step one in that process was putting on actual clothes:

Next we got to break in the new car seat. Carson was somewhat disinterested:

All loaded up and ready to go. Nurse Pauleen took a family photo before we hit the road:

Despite being his first car ride ever, Carson didn't get too excited:

We arrived home to a surprise party thrown by Grandma and Grandpa Morris and the Baileys. Here cousin Vivian fulfills one of the most important parts of a surprise party -- yelling SURPRISE repeatedly.

Mary Jane and Vivian got to check out and play with their newest cousin. Here Carson reacts quite well to being held by MJ:

With the surprise party over it was back to standard operating procedure for Carson:

A Busy 1st Day

With just over 46 hours of life behind him I thought I'd give a few highlights from Carson's first day:

First, apparently just because I put on scrubs they felt the need for me to do something medical. Here I am making a truly pointless cutting of Carson's cord. For those of you who actually have medical degrees, don't worry, it would be cut again by somebody else with actual medical experience within the hour.

After that Carson and dad took a trip down to the nursery to get weighed. He wasn't entirely thrilled with this:

But then he posed nicely with Dad in the Nursery:

Once it was successfully established that he was a big baby we headed back to the recovery room hang with Mom.

He also got to meet Grandma Morris and Aunt Beth, although he was really more interested in having a snack:

After all his visitors left he got a chance to hang with Dad again:

Later in the day the hospital volunteers came by to drop off a new hat and booties:

Carson wasn't all that excited, he mostly napped:

At least until it was time for Mom and Dad to go to bed. Then he stayed up all night.
