When Picking Grandparent Names, Brevity Has its Benefits

With Dad having left on a jet plane (well technically I just drove to Vegas, but it was via Sasha, who was born from jets) Carson and Laura had the place to themselves this weekend.

Carson praised the heavens that he got to be the man of the house.

Ok, it was really just a balloon that caused the excitement.

This one literally speaks for itself.

Breakfast of champions: blueberries, toast and bananas.

Finally, after a weekend in Vegas to celebrate the impending end of Tony Hutchison's batchelorhood, Greg Dahlmann stopped by the Playa pad to meet Carson.

Birthday Party Madness Concludes

Laura was so upset with the lack of prompt blog updates that she even decided to write some copy this week. Of course, we didn't actually have pictures that went along with anything she wrote, but I'll just take her text and fit it to what we do have. Without further ado, here's Laura (she'll be in italics for the rest of the post):

Now that he is 13 months old, Carson is quite the character. We thought we’d use some of this week’s space to tell you what Carson likes to do:

It seems that the arrival of actual footwear and walking coincided pretty closely. Not sure what will happen when Carson fits these flip flops.

Carson LOVES fruit (what kid doesn’t), and will consume whole peaches, nectarines, bananas, apricots, grapes, and loves berries (blue, straw, ollala, boysen, rasp, you name it). He typically eats a whole piece of fruit and/or half pint of berries at each meal, and at least one as a snack, too. He is still quite the eater, especially at breakfast, where he will typically eat a whole banana, a large piece of toast with cream cheese, as well as some additional fruit. Other mornings he’ll eat half of a waffle + fruit. For other meals he’ll down a half of grilled cheese sandwich with turkey as a special treat. Now only if vegetables were on that list…

One thing that will be on the list going forward is pizza. Carson had his first taste of 'za this past weekend at his friend Chiara's birthday party.

Carson also exclusively feeds himself, and is quite good at using the spoon (with a thick yogurt!), which is not to say it is a mess-free experience.

Chiara threw quite the alliterative party (you'd think her parents were writers) with puppets, pizza and a pool. Here Carson enjoys the latter.

It's not a party without balloons. One can only assume Carson's expression of sadness is due in part to the end of Babygroup birthday party season. Of course, it's only a short 8 months til the first of his former babygroup mates turns 2!

To finish off our weekend the Bailey's stopped by on their way home from vacation in Canada. We were practically the first people to congratulate Uncle Jeff on another anniversary of his 29th birthday.

Carson also loves reading books, and flipping through them to point out his favorite parts (usually a fish which will result in a fish face!).

Finally, if you really are bored at work you can sort through two minutes of Carson refusing to jump in once the camera is running (even though he'd been doing it non-stop only seconds before).

Two Weeks in One Post

The blog took the week off for Bill's birthday, but that doesn't mean we stopped taking pictures. So now that we're back at it, here are two weeks worth of pics.

We headed to Santa Barbara for Bill's birthday so he could babysit and move furniture. While there Carson highlighted some of the finer points of Opposites at the Zoo.

He explained to his cousin Mary Jane, "I'll take one bite of applesauce."

"I said ONE bite!"

He checked out the girls new bunk beds.

Spent some quality B-day time with his dad.

There is a lot to do in Santa Barbara county. Carson took some new ride on toys for a test drive.

He's an exacting buyer, so he took his time checking out the sunroof.

While Carson and Bill hung out in town, Laura went wine tasting at a Bachelorette party, checking out another famous Santa Barbara County locale.

With all the walking Carson is doing these days it's getting harder and harder to pin him down.

We also have his regular chores to take care of. The work with the spice rack is never done.

Of course the walking isn't quite perfected yet.

That doesn't stop his game from being played above the rim. Here he and his buddy Nikhil shoot some hoops on the fourth of July (note the fine red, white & blue sweater).

After a long workout it was time to hit the showers.
